Oak Grove, LA (July 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of two people and left another injured on Tuesday night just north of Louisiana Highway 855. According to Louisiana State Police, the deadly crash happened shortly before 9 p.m. on July 8 when 18-year-old Alexis Cox was driving a GMC Terrain northbound on Louisiana Highway 17.
Investigators say Cox crossed the centerline for reasons still under review, colliding head-on with a vehicle carrying 28-year-old Billie Myers of Oak Grove and 59-year-old James Washington of Epps. The impact of the crash caused significant damage to both vehicles and forced emergency crews to close part of the highway while they responded to the scene.
State Police reported that neither Myers nor Washington was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Washington tragically died at the scene due to his injuries, while Myers was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts. Cox, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police are currently investigating the crash.
Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Billie Myers and James Washington during this time. We hope Alexis Cox recovers fully from her injuries.
