Farmerville, LA – Police Officer Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle at D’Arbonne Folk Festival
Farmerville, LA (October 7, 2025) – A Farmerville Police officer was injured Saturday afternoon, October 4, after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic at the D’Arbonne Folk Festival.
The incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and West Franklin Street, where officers were managing heavy traffic for festival attendees. According to officials, the driver failed to stop at the intersection and hit the officer, knocking him to the ground.
Emergency responders, including units from the Farmerville Police Department, the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office (UPSO), and Pafford Emergency Medical Services, arrived quickly to provide aid. Fellow officers transported the injured officer to a local hospital, where medical staff evaluated and treated him. Authorities confirmed that he was later released from the hospital after receiving care.
The UPSO is leading the investigation into the incident. Officials cited the driver for disobedience to police officers and for operating a vehicle with an expired license plate.
Authorities continue their investigation.
We are grateful the officer was released from the hospital and wish him a full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Louisiana
Although this accident involved a uniformed police officer directing traffic, it sheds light on a broader problem: pedestrian accidents across Louisiana. Every year, pedestrians are struck while walking, crossing streets, or working along busy roads. Events like festivals often increase the risk, as larger crowds and heavy traffic create unpredictable conditions.
According to state data, Louisiana consistently ranks among the higher-risk states for pedestrian crashes. These accidents are particularly dangerous because pedestrians have no protection against the force of a moving vehicle. Even collisions at low speeds can cause serious or life-changing injuries.
Common injuries in pedestrian accidents include:
- Head and brain injuries: Victims may suffer concussions or traumatic brain injuries when thrown to the ground. These injuries can lead to long-term cognitive or physical impairments.
- Spinal cord injuries: The sudden impact of a vehicle can damage the spine, sometimes leading to paralysis or lifelong mobility challenges.
- Broken bones: Legs, arms, and ribs are especially vulnerable during collisions. Broken bones often require surgery and lengthy rehabilitation.
- Internal injuries: Blunt force trauma can damage internal organs, causing internal bleeding and other life-threatening complications.
Beyond the physical harm, victims often face emotional trauma and financial strain. Medical bills, lost wages, and ongoing care can overwhelm families already coping with recovery.
In these cases, seeking guidance from an experienced pedestrian accident attorney is essential. A skilled lawyer can investigate the accident, work with experts, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages.
Victims of pedestrian accidents in Louisiana have legal rights when injured by negligent drivers. Whether the cause is failure to yield, distracted driving, or ignoring police instructions, negligent motorists can and should be held accountable. Legal action not only provides financial relief but also helps reinforce safer driving practices within the community.
