Shreveport, LA (February 3, 2026) – A man riding an electronic scooter suffered injuries after a truck struck him Monday afternoon, February 2, in Shreveport. Our thoughts remain with the injured man as he recovers from his injuries.

Time Limits to File a Personal Injury Claim in Louisiana

After an injury accident in Louisiana, many people wonder how long they have to take legal action. Louisiana has one of the shortest filing deadlines in the country for personal injury cases. In most situations, a person has only one year from the date of the accident to file a personal injury claim in court.

This one-year deadline often applies to crashes involving cars, trucks, pedestrians, bicycles, and scooter riders. If someone misses the filing window, the court may not allow the case to move forward. That makes it important for injured victims to understand timelines early, even while focusing on medical care.

Some cases involve injuries that take time to fully appear or require ongoing treatment. People may start with soreness or minor wounds but later need therapy or additional follow-up visits. Medical documentation helps connect injuries directly to the accident and provides important records if a claim becomes necessary.

The process of filing a claim can also require gathering reports, insurance paperwork, and treatment records. Speaking with an attorney early may help clarify what deadlines apply and what steps may be available. A personal injury lawyer can also explain how compensation may work for medical bills, missed work, and recovery-related expenses.
